Happiness By The Mile creator Shelby, along with her trusty sidekick, Dakota, are here to help you explore the daily life of a trucker. Navigating the world of trucking can be difficult and overwhelming. Leading a life over the road shapes you as a person, it molds you into a “fly by the seat of your truck” decision maker. Shelby and Dakota know all too much about that, and are here to support you with the hard lessons you will encounter over the road. With over five years of experience, Shelby creates guides and collects her experiences to share with all drivers, new and veteran. There is always something new to learn! Shelby started Happiness By The Mile to create the mindset that happiness is a choice. She wants to encourage drivers to enjoy life in the moment, and not let happiness only begin or end at their destination. Through vlogs and social media, Shelby shares her experiences on and off the road. Happiness by the Mile encourages drivers, rookies and veterans, to keep moving forward and learning. Another day in the life of an over the road trucker. We had some terrible trailer issues that were only nuisance problems but took so many hours out of my runtime. 13 to be exact. So with the lack of a good complete repair to the trailer and several partial repairs we were left with only a few options.

Dodging scales and taking backroads was my choice, not just to avoid the DOT but also to take in the adventure you can find along the back roads. There were so many cool places we stopped on this trip that we wrapped them up in a separate video that will come out soon. From ghost towns to national parks, there is so much you can miss by just taking the interstate route.

An atlas has always been my best friend. It can be yours too. You can plan all kinds of routes your GPS will never take you. If you're interested in content like this, give Dakota and I a follow and we will see you on our future trips!

Where have I been? What happened? Am I okay? More specifically is Dakota okay?

In short yes we are fine. We are still trucking. This video is meant to really pay respects to not just my struggles, but to all those truck drivers out there also struggling. I know many are just holding it in and acting strong, but I hope I can speak to your heart with this video.

We aren’t alone. We isolate ourselves. Let’s try to do better.

Trucking and its toll on mental health is not something that should be looked over. The damage you can take on is severe if you don’t protect and manage your mental health.
